Amsterdam is a gorgeous city no matter the time of the year, but
locals usually say this place gets a whole new fresh energy during
the Summer. The city itself offers so much for locals and tourists to
enjoy, so many places to visit, so many different activities to
enjoy, so many corners and museums to explore, so many new foods to
try and so many drinks to refresh with.
But when the heat is ruining our every possibility to enjoy and function in the busy city life, one way to escape the misery is to go on a beach, and there are few beaches around Amsterdam that offer everything a person might need during hot summer days. Beautiful sands, lovely waves, great water sport activities, games, cafes and bars, and beach parties.
So if your idea for a summer vacation for this year is Amsterdam, don’t worry, you can enjoy both the magic of the city and its beaches during the same trip! So here are some of the best beaches to enjoy during the summer.
Zandvoort aan Zee
One of the most famous beaches near Amsterdam is at Zandvoort. This beach has a long and interesting history, but today is one of the most attractive places in the Netherlands where you can relax and play sports. It is very popular with tourists and families, the water here is extremely clean, it has wide and sandy beaches and a great variety of beach bars where you can both eat delicious food or enjoy refreshing drinks while looking at the sea. However, the water can feel pretty cold, but it does warm up on hotter days.
Bloemendaal aan Zee
For the party animals, Bloemendaal would be the perfect place to spend the summer at. Here you will find the best beach night parties held at amazing beach bars and pubs where live bands and DJs have their regular performances. Bloemendaal also has an area for nude sunbathing that can be found further north up the shore.
Zuid-Kennemerland National Park
The Zuid-Kennemerland National Park is a place where you can enjoy some gorgeous natural beauty on an ocean-side edge of the Randstad region. Here you can spend your time walking or biking through the dunes and relaxing on the shoreline. For a full amazing experience, you might want to visit the Landgoed Duin & Kruidberg country-house hotel adjacent to the park.
IJmuiden aan Zee & Wijk aan Zee
This is the widest beach in the Netherlands, and if you walk and explore some more, you might find some empty stretches of beach where you can enjoy the peace and quiet all by yourself or your private company. On windy days, you can enjoy kite flying and windsurfing here. Wijk aan Zee is perfect for a lazy day at the beach and the Timboektoe beach pavilion is a place where you can enjoy live music every Saturday, as well as children’s sand sculpture contests and yoga on Sundays.
